Characterisation RetaLac^®

RetaLac^®'s powder properties have been designed particularly for direct compression applications.
A typical particle size distribution by laser diffraction is presented in the figure.
Typical values of x₁₀, x₅₀, x₉₀ are found at 55, 125 and 260 μm, respectively.
Using mechanical sieve shaker [Retsch AS 200: 25 g; 10 min, amplitude 2 mm] yields subsequent typical sieve data:

< 63 µm: 12 %
< 100 µm: 35 %
< 250 µm: 90 %

In a funnel [Ph.Eur., 2.9.16. flowability; 10 mm orifice] 100 g RetaLac^® has a flow-through time of approximately 5 seconds. In contrast the 50:50 physical mixture of α-lactose monohydrate and HPMC does not flow at all.
